![]() ![]() EOS does NOT store ANY PII (personally identifiable info). They need them to work, they are what handle authentication, server browsing and listing and more. Yes EOS collect information, in the same way any of the above mentioned systems do. We avaluated all of the above and more as we looked towards the future of KF and potential future titles that would allow us to move our systems to a singular backend that we could access and manage and allow for crossplay across multiple platforms.Įpic Online Services is the one the team picked after evaluation. This is like using other backends such as Steamworks, Playfab, Amazon Gamelift and more, except it is hosted and ran by our partners at Epic. So beware! TW now implemented a dead switch by EPIC (playable on Steam only if you are first connected to EPIC) and can implement with every update more sneaky API calls to EPIC, which deliver them needed data.Īs stated previously ( ), we have switched to using Epic Online Services as our multiplayer and account backend. It feels like the first step of a Foot-in-the-door technique by EPIC. Implementing the cross-play over the dedicated server logic without forcing the Steam KF2 game to connect to EPIC would also be possible?! Also if there are currently no EPIC account with EGS client is need to play KF2 Steam version, we now not know what EPIC / TW will decide. Where does this idea with cross-play with EPIC come from? Definitely not from the Steam community. Enough proof to see what is here more important, the community or the money… Since the first post, there were released two KF2 updates, without removing the telemetry collection for EPIC. Before the EPIC update it is possible to play offline solo match to do some achievements, testing custom maps or screenshoting or play for example a LAN match, even if there are no perk level or EXP, because the connection to the Steam API is missing. ![]() I downgraded the game and tested it completely offline (no internet access). The steam EULA is not updated and doesn‘t link to the mentioned privacy policy and not warn new Steam buyers that KF2 is interacting with EPIC and is only playable with active online connection! ( 202008* EULA was updated.) TW updated their privacy policy on their official site.ģ.2 Platform Partners: Valve, Sony, Microsoft, Epic & Oculus TW should clarify the situation and make some updates please. This move was not described like this and was made without legal update. The cross-play is not like “Steam players can play now with EPIC players” it is more “Steam players are now allowed to join EPIC Services to play with them” because the main feature of the player management was moved to EPIC. I accepted the Steam and KF2 EULA knowing what stuff they can do, played the game without all this new tracking implementation. This are the points which are not fine for me. Then its become more important which company and under which arguments they running such a service. Even if they now collecting without any legal basis only some game events, your geolocation and OS information (already a bad practice), the build in feature can be extended every time. The new implementation which was announced as only cross-play with EGS players, is doing more as really needed to play only the game. The metaphor with the Trojan horse is here more in focus as the Trojan malware, even if it similar to what here was done. There is also a NEW metric collection feature over metrics.ol., which was not announced but can be blocked without losing functionality. Every KF2 player who want play the game, with or without EGS client, is talking with So since the last update, you interact with EPIC if you want play the game. Over the same domain there is also telemetry running. The connection to is needed first, before your KF2 profile data like perk level, dosh amount, EXP can be loaded from Steam. If there is no connection to then it is not possible to play the game in solo or multiplayer. Here some clarification if something was missing or misunderstandable. Next time be please more specific, like "Moving KF2 multiplayer to EPIC, because we are out of dosh." Will be there a rollback, or will somebody remove the analytics, or update the privacy policy, or will this thread only be ignored like others? So thanks for breaking the Steam version and extradite all KF2 Steam players to EPIC. ![]()
